When a bedside table is needed or a corner seems it needs a bit of something don't buy new but instead try to refurbish, reassign, or redecorate owned objects.

1.  Use items already owned and refurbish them with old cans of paint, cloth remnants or other leftovers. The idea is to clear out sheds, garages, closets and junk drawers in the quest for a beautiful recycled object before any money is spent.picture

2.  Stay within a skill level that is comfortable.  Fabric glue can eliminate sewing in a wide range of applications while wood glues can reduce the need for hammers and nails in small projects. A staple gun can also save time and effort and can be used with a wide range of materials, even lightweight sheet metal.

3.   If an item just doesn't seem to work trade it at a junk exchange event or use it elsewhere.

4.  Hold swap meets or junk exchange events with friends or the community.  Here a person can drop off an item that won't work for them and pick up one that does at no cost.
